BREAKING: GAMSAT 2020 WILL BE REMOTELY SUPERVISED AND HELD ONLINE

GAMSAT (Graduate Medical School Admissions Test) will be held online via remote supervision this year, for the first time ever. GAMSAT is used for admission into postgraduate medical programs at some universities, mainly in Australia, Ireland and the United Kingdom.
GAMSAT is normally a written test that takes place in large testing halls. With the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, this is not currently considered safe. Therefore, GAMSAT 2020 will instead take place online. Candidates will be able to sit the test at home, or at a private location of their choosing. Candidates will be required to have a stable internet connection and a computer.
Candidates will be supervised remotely by a ‘proctor’, or supervisor. This proctor will not be present in the room, but will confirm via virtual means that the candidate’s computer and testing environment are suitable. You may be wondering whether the same process will take place for UCAT. However, note that GAMSAT differs from UCAT in several ways:
- GAMSAT is used for graduate medical entry, while UCAT is predominantly used for undergraduate medical entry
- GAMSAT is normally a written test that generally takes place in large testing halls, while UCAT is a computer-based test that takes place in smaller testing venues
- GAMSAT is run by ACER (the Australian Council for Educational Research) while UCAT is run by a different organisation, Pearson VUE
- GAMSAT normally takes place in March and September, while UCAT normally takes place from the beginning of July
Given the evolving COVID-19 situation, it is still unclear whether UCAT 2020 will take place as planned in July, under normal testing conditions. The current advice from the UCAT Consortium (and MedEntry) is to continue your UCAT preparation as usual. You should plan for UCAT testing to commence at the start of July, in Pearson VUE testing centres, as per normal. MedEntry will continue to closely monitor the situation and provide updates to students.
