What Happens Next: After the UCAT

What Happens Next: After the UCAT

3 years ago by Rob

For the few weeks leading up to the UCAT, it can seem like the entire world revolves around it. Often you can put off worrying about day to day issues until after the day of the test. So when the test date does roll around, and you walk out of the test centre with your head held high, the first question that you are likely to ask yourself is, “What am I supposed to do now?”.

One thing that it is good to organise for directly after the test is to spend an evening with friends or family, maybe at dinner or even just sitting back and listening to some tunes. This will give you something to look forward to after the test is done and dusted, to help reset you and pop you out of the UCAT bubble.

In the longer term, it is important to get back to focusing on school work, as it is important that you are up to date with content in the first couple of weeks of term 3, to allow you to achieve to the best of your abilities in school assessments. It is always important to remember that UCAT is just one piece (although one of the most pivotal pieces) of your path into Medicine, and that performing well in your senior studies is also very important.

Furthermore, it is important not to fret over what you did or didn’t do in the two hours of the UCAT after you walk out of the test centre, because this will have absolutely no bearing on your outcome. Likewise, you don’t need to get distracted and caught up in conjecture about when the percentiles will be released. Rather, as preposterous as it may sound, it can often be best to try and forget that you ever sat the UCAT.

So after giving the UCAT your best shot, hopefully this article has helped answer that common question, “What am I supposed to do now?” both in the hours, and weeks after the UCAT.

Written by Jeremy, who achieved in the 99th Percentile in the UCAT and who is in the provisional UQ MD program.
