Which universities use the UCAT as part of their selection criteria for medicine courses?

The following universities require satisfactory completion of the UCAT as part of their selection criteria for students who are seeking to gain entry into undergraduate Medicine and Dentistry courses. There are also some universities which use the UCAT as part of their graduate entry programmes.

For all of the following universities, performance on the UCAT will not be the only requirement to gain entry, but for most of these universities it will be the first criterion that students need to satisfy to become an eligible applicant. Students should check each university’s individual website for their specific selection criteria. It will often be a combination of UCAT, performance in an interview i.e MMI, and ATAR score to gain entry, but there may be other requirements. Further, it is important to note that universities may weight each of these selection criteria differently.

As you can see, it is absolutely essential that you perform to your best on the UCAT exam in order to gain entry into your preferred undergraduate medicine or Dentistry course. Without satisfactory completion of the UCAT, your ATAR score (no matter how high) will not help you to gain entry into these courses. Further, although the UCAT is primarily used to select applicants for undergraduate medical courses, as noted above, it is also used for some graduate entry medical programs offered by select universities such as Newcastle, Western Sydney, Auckland and Otago.

For more detailed information and approximate weightings of ATAR and UCAT scores used by each university, MedEntry students should see the University Admissions guide on the LMS. MedEntry UCAT preparation can also assist students in completing their written applications for specific universities.
